Amal Alamuddin is a barrister specialising in international law, human rights, extradition and criminal law. She has represented clients in cases before the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights, as well as in domestic courts in the UK and US.
Amal also provides advice to governments and individuals on international law, and has been appointed to a number of UN commissions including as adviser to Special Envoy Kofi Annan on Syria, and as Counsel to the Inquiry launched by UN human rights rapporteur Ben Emmerson QC into the use of drones in counter-terrorism operations.
Amal is fluent in French and Arabic and has particular expertise in international criminal law and the Middle East region.

Legal adviser to the head of the UN commission investigating the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri and other terrorist attacks in Lebanon;
Legal adviser to the King of Bahrain in connection with the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry headed by Professor Cherif Bassiouni;
Member of Expert Panel of Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative formed by UK Foreign Secretary William Hague to gather evidence of sexual crimes committed in conflict zones.

Training
Amal regularly devises and delivers training to judges, state officials and UN investigators on international criminal law and human rights. She has also conducted training for police forces in the Gulf region.
Seminars and Publications
Amal is the co- editor (with David Tolbert and Nidal Jurdi) of a book entitled The Law and Practice of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, to be published in 2013 by Oxford University Press. She is also the author of several book-chapters and articles on international criminal law published by Oxford University Press.
Amal has lectured students on international criminal law at SOAS (University of London), The New School in New York, The Hague Academy of International Law, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She also regularly speaks at conferences and seminars.
